Cougars Take Down Eutectics for Tenth Straight Victory; Burchard Earns 700th Win

St. Louis, Mo. - The 16th-ranked Columbia men's basketball team defeated American Midwest Conference opponent St. Louis College of Pharmacy by a score of 98-33 on the road Saturday night. With the victory, the Cougars improve to 10-0 overall on the year and 4-0 in AMC play while the Eutectics fall to 0-6 on the season and 0-4 in league play. 

Columbia led 45-15 at the halftime break after shooting 44 percent. The Cougars maintained a sizeable lead in the second half and shot 56 percent to finish with a 50 percent clip for the game.

Four Cougars finished in double figures, led by Marcus Whitt with a season-high 17 points. Dwaun Stewart, Nic Reynolds and Preston Whitfield chipped in 10 points apiece. Jesse Brown led all players with 17 rebounds as Columbia finished with a 58-22 advantage on the boards and Jackson Dubinski dished out seven assists.

With today's win, head coach Bob Burchard claims his 700th victory at Columbia College. Since his arrival at Columbia College, Burchard has turned the Cougar basketball program into a perennial powerhouse in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Burchard has compiled a 700-236 record in 28 seasons at the helm, giving him the most wins in program history. The Cougars have averaged more than 26 victories per season under his guidance.

The Cougars have advanced to the NAIA Men's National Basketball Championship 19 times in his tenure. Burchard has been named the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Coach of the Year nine times. Among all active coaches in the NAIA, he ranks 4th in wins with 700.

The Cougars return to AMC action on Saturday, December 12th when they travel to Hannibal, Mo. to take on Hannibal-LaGrange University. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
