Box Score Hannibal, Mo. - The 5
th-ranked Columbia College men's basketball team extended their current winning streak to 11 games this evening on the road with a 69-44 win over conference foe Hannibal-LaGrange University. The Cougars improve to 11-0 on the season and 5-0 in conference play with the win while the Trojans fall to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in league play with the loss.
The game was a defensive battle to begin as the Cougars led 12-5 with 10 minutes gone from the first half. Columbia would extend their lead to double digits and carry a 38-20 advantage into the halftime break after shooting just 32 percent from the field while holding the Trojans to 28 percent shooting. The Cougars were led by
Zach Rockers with six points and nine rebounds in the half.
The Trojans cut the Cougar lead to 11 points at 42-31 to start the second half and eventually pulled within nine at 44-35 midway through as Columbia's shooting went cold. The Cougars pushed their lead back out to double digits, but HLGU hung around and came within nine again at 49-40 with 7:58 left to play. Columbia used a 14-2 run to gain separation making the score 63-42 with 4:42 left to play and didn't look back from there.
Travis Vogt scored five straight points during the run with a three and a layup while
Chantel Stanciel capped off the run with a three of his own.
HLGU couldn't find the momentum to make a comeback as the Cougars would end the game on a 6-2 run to pick up the 69-44 road victory.
The Cougars were led by Rockers, Vogt and
Malik Ray with 10 points apiece.
Columbia will return to the hardwood on Thursday, December 17
th when they host conference foe Lindenwood University-Belleville. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Arena of Southwell Complex.
