Columbia, Mo. - The Cougar women's basketball team defeated American Midwest Conference (AMC) opponent St. Louis College of Pharmacy 101-25 in their first meeting ever on Saturday afternoon at the Arena of Southwell Complex to claim their 13
th conference victory of the year. Columbia improves to 17-8 overall and 13-6 in conference play with the win.
Senior guard
Tierney Seifert knocked down a pair of three-pointers as the Cougars took an 8-2 lead with five minutes erased in the first half.
Amber Percival and
Aqua Corpening hit back-to-back three-pointers at the 14:41 minute mark to spark a run as Columbia outscored the Eutectics 41-13 and took a 49-15 advantage into the halftime break. The Cougars shot 51 percent in the first frame while holding College of Pharmacy to a 22 percent clip and forcing 16 turnovers. Seifert and
Samantha Cavlovich each had nine first half points.
Columbia's hot shooting carried into the second half as they extended their lead to 47 with a 14-1 run coming out of the locker room to begin the second half. The Cougars continued to roll throughout the second period, stretching their lead out to 73 on their way to victory. Columbia connected on 23 of 43 attempts from the field in the final frame to finish at 53 percent for the game, while also forcing 24 turnovers.
Five Cougars ended the night in double figures including a season-high 18 points from Cavolvich on 5 of 9 shooting from behind the arc.
Brittany Yost chipped in 18 points as well and Corri Hamilton ended the game with her third consecutive double-double posting 17 points and 11 rebounds. Percival and
Kei'yana Pearson added 12 and 10 points respectively.
Martha Imoniana and
Caprese Marshall each gave out a game-high four assists.
The Cougars will hit the road and head to Parkville, Mo. to take on Park University on Tuesday, February 17
th. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
