Cougar Women Suffer AMC Loss to Visiting Lindenwood-Belleville, 75-59

Columbia, Mo. - The Cougar women's basketball team fell to conference opponent Lindenwood University-Belleville by a score of 75-59 on Thursday night at the Arena of Southwell Complex. Columbia, falls to 15-8 overall and 11-6 in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) with the loss while the Lynx improve to 12-10 on the season and 11-5 in conference play.

The Cougars scored on their first two possessions, but the Lynx would score eight unanswered points from there to go up 8-4 with the first five minutes erased. The Lynx remained in control and led 26-13 at the midway point after a 13-3 run. Kindra Brown proved to be unstoppable as she hit a trio of threes throughout the run. Ashley Fisher responded with a three of her own at the 8:26 minute mark, as it sparked a 13-1 by the Cougars to pull them within one at 27-26 with a little under three minutes to play in the half. The Lynx extended their lead back out with the help of an 8-0 run, and took the 35-26 advantage into the halftime period.

Columbia quickly wiped away the halftime deficit, and tied the game at 35 after nine unanswered points capped off by a Caprese Marshall three-pointer. However, Lindenwood-Belleville gained separation after a 13-2 run to make it 48-37 just five minutes in. Fisher and Amber Percival hit a three on Columbia's next two possessions to cut the deficit back down to single digits at 50-43. Both teams traded fouls and sent a player to the free-throw line where each hit two of two to put the score at 52-45. From there, the Cougars used a 6-2 run to make the score 54-51, but the Lynx outscored Columbia 21-8 over the remainder of the game as they pulled away with the road victory.

Aqua Corpening led three Columbia players in double figures with 11 points, while Corri Hamilton notched a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Kayla Washington chipped in 10 points for Columbia, who shot 35 percent. Hamilton also led the game with four assists.

The Lady Lynx were led by Kindra Brown with a game-high 31 points. Shelby Kohrmann also finished in double figures adding 27 points and a team-high seven rebounds as the Lynx finished with a 46-36 edge on the glass.

Columbia will hit the road on Thursday, February 12th for a conference matchup with Harris-Stowe State. The Cougars defeated HSSU 96-50 at home in their last meeting back on January 1st. Thursday's contest is set for a 5:30 pm start in St. Louis, Mo.
