Henderson, Tenn. - The Cougar men's soccer team picked up a 2-0 victory over American Midwest Conference (AMC) foe Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University tonight at Josh Riley Soccer Complex. Columbia improves to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play with the win while the Lions fall to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in AMC play.
Columbia's
Nic Powers struck first after scoring on a penalty kick in the 22
nd minute of play. The score would remain 1-0 until
Carter Cox added a second tally in the 48
th minute to give the Cougars a 2-0 advantage over the Lions. Columbia would hold on from there, pulling away with the shutout victory.
Columbia posted an 11-4 shot advantage in the match, including a 9-1 edge in shots-on-goal. Junior keeper
Ian McTurk (3-0) earned the win in goal with one save.
The Cougars return to the field Thursday, September 17
th when they host American Midwest Conference opponent William Woods University. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. at R. Marvin Owens Field.
