Henderson, Tenn. – The Cougar women's soccer team picked up a 1-0 victory over American Midwest Conference (AMC) foe Freed-Hardeman University tonight. With the win, Columbia improves to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play while the Lions fall to 4-2 on the season and 1-1 in league play.
Sophomore forward,
Laurie Frew, netted her conference leading sixth goal of the season in the 18
th minute of play to give the Cougars a 1-0 advantage over the Lions.
Katelyn Palmer picked up her third assist of the season on the goal. The score remained 1-0 heading into the halftime break, with Columbia outshooting Freed-Hardeman, 7-2.
The Cougars posted six shots and the Lions had four in the second half, but neither team would be able to score as Columbia earned the shutout victory.
Flavia Rosado (4-1) started and earned the win in goal for Columbia, posting four saves on the night. The Lions totaled six shots (four on-goal) for the game, compared to 13 shots (nine on-goal) for the Cougars.
The Cougars return to the field Thursday, September 17
th when they host American Midwest Conference opponent William Woods University. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m. at R. Marvin Owens Field.
