Columbia, Mo. – The Cougar women' soccer team defeated William Woods University 5-0 tonight in an American Midwest Conference (AMC) showdown at R. Marvin Owens Field. With the win, Columbia improves to 5-1 on the year and 2-0 in AMC play. The Owls drop to 1-4-1 with a 0-2 mark in conference action.
Sophomore
Tiffany Weaver tallied her third goal of the season in the 18
th minute of play to give the Cougars an early 1-0 advantage over the Owls.
Taylor Hagenhoff lofted the ball over the Owl defenders setting up Weaver for the goal, picking up her second assist of the year.
Columbia controlled the ball the entire first half, posting 11 shots compared to just two by William Woods, but couldn't add to their 1-0 lead heading into the halftime break.
Katelyn Palmer took advantage of a hand ball in the box, scoring her first goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 52
nd minute.
Weaver struck again in the 58
th minute and the AMC leading scorer
Laurie Frew scored her seventh goal in the 66
th minute to give the Cougars a commanding 4-0 lead.
Molly Burke rounded out the scoring after finding the top right corner of the net on a pass by Frew, scoring the first goal of her collegiate career with 13 minutes remaining in the game.
Columbia completely dominated the ball, outshooting William Woods 22-2 for the game, with the Cougars converting five of nine shots-on-goal.
Flavia Rosado (5-1) posted one save on the night and earned the shutout win in goal.
The Cougars will continue AMC action Saturday, September 19
th when they host St. Louis College of Pharmacy. Game time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at R. Marvin Owens Field.
