Columbia, Mo. – The Cougar Volleyball team won its second American Midwest Conference match of the season on Monday night, defeating Williams Baptist College 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-23). Columbia, ranked 13
th in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll, improves to 6-4 and 2-1 in the AMC while the Eagles fall to 4-3 overall and 0-1 in league play.
The Cougars jumped out to a 14-8 lead in game one and cruised to a 25-12 win behind 13 kills and a .579 attack percentage. Columbia continued their domination throughout the second set, winning 25-12 and hanging on to take the straight set victory in game three by a score of 25-23.
Columbia hit .492 for the match behind a match-high 11 kills from
Penny Liu and eight kills from
Eirini Chatziefstratiadou. Setter
Sashiko Heredia dished out a match-high 35 assists on the night while
Sami Meyer had six digs.
The Cougars return to the court this weekend as they head to Bourbonnais, Ill. to participate in the Holiday Inn Express Classic hosted by Olivet Nazarene University. On September 18
th, Columbia will take on No. 22 Grand View at 11:00 a.m. followed by Olivet Nazarene University at 3:00 p.m. On day two, the Cougars will face (RV) Davenport University at 9:00 a.m. and wrap up play against (RV) Cornerstone University at 3:00 p.m.
