Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College men's soccer team earned their third straight American Midwest Conference (AMC) shutout of the season, defeating St. Louis College of Pharmacy 6-0 tonight at R. Marvin Owens Field. With the victory, the Cougars improve their overall record to 6-2 and conference record to 3-0. The Eutectics fall to 0-4 on the season and 0-4 in AMC play with the loss.
After the Cougars posted eight shots to begin the first half, senior
Luiz Guilherme Stein finally made it happen, finding the back of the net in the 10
th minute, to give Columbia the early 1-0 lead.
Mark Steiniger and
Lakin Kehde were credited with an assist on the goal.
Vadim Cojocov added his team leading fifth tally of the season after a nifty pass over the top from the team's assist leader,
Zachary Felz in the 26
th minute of play. Four minutes later,
Edin Campara scored his second goal of the year after a cross by
Mark Steiniger for the 3-0 advantage.
Columbia carried the 3-0 lead into the halftime break after outshooting the Eutectics, 25-1 with 10 shots-on-goal.
Guilherme Stein struck again in the 58
th minute,
Piero Malerba found his second goal of the season, and
Mitchell Conning found the net to round out the scoring for the Cougars.
Malerba, Conning, and Campara were each credited with an assist.
Columbia outshot the Eutectics 54-3 with 22 shots-on-goal for the night.
Alex Noll recorded the shutout for the Cougars in his first start of the season, posting one save.
The Cougars return to action on Saturday, September 26
th when they host Ottawa University. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at R. Marvin Owens Field.
