Box Score Olathe, Kan. - The Cougar men's soccer team fell to No. 12 Mid-America Nazarene University 2-1 in double overtime on Wednesday night. Columbia drops to 1-1 while the Pioneers improve to 3-1.
Columbia College struck first towards the beginning of the first half as
Vadim Cojocov scored his second goal of the season in the 11
th minute. The Pioneers were able to tie the contest in the 34
th minute as Luis Cadena found the back of the net after heading in a shot by Clark Campbell.
Neither side was able to get on the board over the final 45 minutes of regulation and the game was sent into overtime. Both teams continued to apply pressure, but couldn't get the job done in the first overtime.
With time running out in the second overtime, Lucas Machado came up big as he netted his first goal of the season to help the Pioneers pull away with the win.
For the game, MNU outshot CC 23-11, with SOG being 8-4.
Daniel Ainsworth was credited with six saves on the night in goal for the Cougars.
Columbia will be back in action tomorrow, September 3
rd to take on Southwest Baptist University. The match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at R. Marvin Owens Field.
