Columbia, Mo. – The 25
th-ranked Cougar women's soccer team posted its fifth shutout victory of the 2015 season with a 12-0 win over crosstown opponent Stephens (Mo.) College on Wednesday night. With the victory, Columbia improves to 7-1 overall on the year and 4-0 in American Midwest Conference (AMC) action.
Sophomore
Laurie Frew scored the Cougar's first goal of the contest less than a minute into the opening period for an early 1-0 advantage. Columbia added six more goals over the remainder of the first half and took a 7-0 lead at the halftime break. The Cougars tacked on five goals during the final period and went on to complete the shutout from there.
Nine different players scored for Columbia in the match, including a hat trick from
Tiffany Weaver, two goals by Frew, and one goal by
Katelyn Palmer,
Katie Cook,
Yuko Shinomiya,
Kelli Westhues,
Amy Bolton,
Carlie Howe, and
Ana Goncalves. Frew also finished with a game-high three assists. Junior
Flavia Rosado (7-1) earned the shutout in goal for the Cougars.
After tonight, Frew brings her season total to 11 goals and seven assists, making her the AMC leader in both categories.
The Cougars will return to the field this Saturday, September 26
th as they host Ottawa University on Homecoming/Family Day. Game time is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at R. Marvin Owens Field.
