Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College women's soccer team handed Lindenwood University-Belleville their first conference loss of the season tonight, defeating the Lynx 5-0 in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Game of the Week. With the win, the Cougars improve their overall record to 8-3 and remain perfect in AMC play, moving to 5-0. Lindenwood-Belleville falls to 5-4 overall and 4-1 in league play with the loss.
Seven minutes into the game, sophomore
Tiffany Weaver notched her eighth goal of the season to give the Cougars an early 1-0 lead.
Laurie Frew picked up her conference leading 10
th assist on the play.
In the 28
th minute,
Katie Cook found the net, striking a rebounded shot by Weaver after a cross by Frew to add to Columbia's lead. The Cougars carried the 2-0 advantage into the halftime break after outshooting the Lynx 16-4, posting nine shots-on-goal.
Kelli Westhues added Columbia's third tally of the game in the 57
th minute after following up her own rebounded shot off of the Lynx goalkeeper, Raven Loughridge.
Jordan Poire earned the assist on the goal. Six minutes later, Westhues would strike again after connecting with help from
Erin Collier and
Katelyn Palmer.
The Cougar offense didn't stop there as Weaver worked her way around a Lynx defender to score her second goal of the night in the 68
th minute, giving Columbia a commanding 5-0 lead over the Lynx. Palmer was credited with her second assist of the game.
Columbia completely dominated the ball all night, outshooting Lindenwood-Belleville 28-7, posting 16 shots-on-goal.
Flavia Rosado (8-3) earned the win in goal, recording two saves.
The Cougars return to the field Saturday, October 3
rd when they host AMC opponent Williams Baptist College. The game is set for 12:00 p.m. at R. Marvin Owens Field.
