Cougars Break Three Point Record in Victory over Eutectics

Columbia, Mo. – The 6th-ranked Cougar women's basketball team defeated American Midwest Conference (AMC) opponent St. Louis College of Pharmacy 97-46 on Saturday afternoon at Southwell Complex to claim their 15th conference victory of the year. Columbia improves to 21-1 overall and 15-1 in conference play with the win.

Petrolina Chilaka drained a three to begin the game, but the Eutectics responded with two threes as they raced out to an 8-3 lead. Ashlee Marlatt, Hannah Sutton, Brittany Yost and Kei'yana Pearson each hit a three on the next four Cougar possessions to go ahead 15-10. Columbia outscored the Eutectics 10-2 over the next four minutes and held a 25-12 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

Columbia won the second quarter 22-13 and carried a 47-25 advantage into the halftime break after shooting 47 percent from the field. The Cougars also shot 56 percent (10/18) from three point range and held a 26-16 advantage on the boards.

The Cougars completely dominated the third quarter, extending their lead to 45 at 80-35 with 30 minutes erased from the game. Columbia led by as many as 55 in the fourth quarter on their way to the lopsided victory.

Columbia finished shooting 51 percent from the field and made a record breaking 18 three pointers which was previously set at 17. The Cougars also outrebounded the visitors 53-31 and had 53 bench points, 12 second chance points and 27 points off of turnovers.

Four Cougars finished in double digit scoring while eight others also cracked the scoring column. Marlatt led all players with 19 points after shooting 5-for-7 from beyond the arc. Sutton recorded her first career double-double with a season-high 17 points and 10 rebounds and Corri Hamilton ended with 14 points. Pearson recorded 10 points and six assists while Alexis Uffman also dished out six assists.

The Eutectics were led by Emi Santhuff and Morgan Rose with 11 points apiece.

The Cougars will return to the court on Thursday, February 4th when they travel to Lindenwood University-Belleville for another conference matchup. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. in Belleville, Ill.
