Conning Leads Cougars in AMC Game of the Week

Belleville, Ill. – Tonight the Columbia College men's soccer team traveled to Belleville, Illinois, to take on Lindenwood (Ill.) University-Belleville in the AMC Game of the week. The Cougars dominated the Lynx from the opening whistle and were able to extend their streak to nine straight games without a loss in the 7-0 victory.

It did not take long for the Cougars to get on the scoreboard. They were able to go up 1-0 just four minutes into the game after Mitchell Conning took the ball himself and beat the Lynx goalkeeper. Conning added his second goal of the half with just over 16 minutes left to play when the ball found him in the box again and he slid it into the back of the net. The Cougar forward was able to complete his hat trick in the 42nd minute when Edin Campara found him in the box for his eighth goal of the season. Nick Horne also had a goal in the first half as Columbia College took a 4-0 lead into the halftime break.

The Lynx came out in the second half looking to get back into the game as they had three shots in the first ten minutes of the half. Despite several chances, Lindenwood University-Belleville was never able to find the back of the net. The Cougars played great defensively in the second half and also picked up three more goals. Mitchell Conning was able to add to his fantastic performance when he returned the favor to Edin Campara and found him in the box for his fifth goal of the season. The duo was back at it again with just over 25 minutes to play when Conning found Camapara for his second goal of the half. Michael Mayberry finished off the scoring for Columbia College in the 75th minute when he finished off a pass from Matheus Lima for his eighth goal of the season.

Iain McTurk was in goal for the Cougars tonight recording three saves in the shutout victory. The shutout is the third of the season and the teams fourth overall.

The Cougars are back in action on Saturday, October 15th when they take on Harris-Stowe State University in an AMC matchup. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. on R. Marvin Owens Field in Columbia.
