Hagenhoff Leads Cougars in 6-0 Win

Columbia, Mo. – This afternoon the 19th ranked Columbia College women's soccer team took on Harris-Stowe State (Mo.) University in an AMC matchup. The Cougars defeated the Hornets by a final score of 6-0 for their fourth win in a row. With the win, Columbia College now improves to 12-1-2 on the year and 8-1 in conference play as they continue to fight for the top spot in the conference.

The Cougars came out of the gate and applied pressure to the Hornets early. They were able to pick up their first goal of the match just eight minutes into the game when Emma Laney blasted a shot off of the cross bar and it bounced right to Lucy Kingsley who calmly placed it into the bottom left hand corner of the net for her fifth goal of the season. Laurie Frew had her 11th goal of the season just a few minutes later when Taylor Hagenhoff played a long ball up to Frew who got her head on the bounce and slipped it past the Hornets keeper.

Tiffany Weaver put the Cougars up 3-0 in the 23rd minute when Taylor Hagenhoff played another great ball out of the back and found Weaver who was able to hit a low shot into the right corner of the net for her fifth goal of the season. Lucy Kingsley had her second goal of the game just 15 seconds later when Katelyn Palmer found her in the box to put Columbia College ahead 4-0 heading into the half time break. The Cougars had 18 shots in the half including nine on target.

The Hornets came out in the second half and applied pressure to the Cougars back line early. They had their only good chance of the game five minutes into the half when Megan Wilson was able to get a shot on goal. Flavia Rosado made the save on the shot and the Hornets were unable to get anything going after that as they only had two more shots in the game.

Taylor Hagenhoff had her second goal of the season 21 minutes into the second half. Kelsey Mirts made a run down the sideline and cut the ball back into the middle of the box before getting taken down by the Hornets defender. Hagenhoff took the penalty shot and added to her great game when she placed the ball into the lower right hand corner of the net to put the Cougars ahead 5-0. Columbia College picked up one more goal with just over seven minutes left to go when a Hornets defender was called for a hand ball inside the box. Emma Laney took the penalty shot for the Cougars and buried it into the right side corner of the net for her second goal of the season.

Flavia Rosado and Madison Boyken split time in goal for Columbia College tonight combining for two saves in the shutout. This was the 12th shutout for the Cougars as they continue to play great defense this season.
