Box Score Parkville, Mo. – Tonight the 25
th ranked Columbia College volleyball team traveled to Parkville, Missouri, to take on the seventh ranked Park (Mo.) University Pirates in the AMC Game of the Week. The Cougars were defeated by the Pirates in three straight sets (25-21, 25-14, 25-17) and fell to 15-11 on the season.
In the first set of the match, the Cougars found themselves down early. They trailed the Pirates by a score of 5-1 but battled back and tied the game up at 12. Despite their efforts, Columbia College was unable to get their attack going and Park University broke away from the Cougars taking the first set by a score of 25-21. Columbia College was led by
Peiyi Liu and
Caroline Clifford who each had three kills in the set.
The second set started with both teams exchanging points early. With the score tied at 10, the Pirates went on a 10-2 run and cruised to a 25-14 victory to take a 2-0 lead in the match. The Cougars came out in the third set looking to get back into the match. They hung with Park University for most of the set but with the Pirates leading 15-14 they were able to go on a 6-3 run and defeated the Cougars by a score of 25-17 to complete the three game sweep.
Columbia College was led by
Peiyi Liu who had eight kills and
Sashiko Heredia who had 21 assists in the match.
Sami Meyer had a great game defensively for the Cougars picking up a match high 10 digs.
The Cougars are back home on Saturday, October 22
nd when they take on Vangaurd (Calif.) University in Columbia. The match is set to begin at 11 a.m.
