Columbia, Mo. – The Cougar men's soccer team scored a big win on Family Day/Homecoming, taking down the Lions of Freed-Hardeman University 5-1 this afternoon. Columbia improves to 7-4-1 with an American Midwest Conference record of 6-0-1.

The two squads were evenly matched in the first half with the visiting Lions drawing first blood. Just eight minutes into the contest Andrij Sawczuk found the back of the net to give Freed-Hardeman the lead. Dan Reilly knotted the score at one less than 10 minutes later when he scored his first goal of the season. The teams entered the locker rooms at half time all tied up.

Columbia wasted no time in the second half, scoring four goals in the next 15 minutes. Akhil Noel (Matheus Lima), Matheus Lima (Pere Servera), Joey Koetting (Mitchell Conning) and Mitchell Conning (Matheus Lima) each added goals throughout the stretch, dominating play and keeping the Lions on the defensive the whole half.

Iain McTurk and Andrew Bare shared time in goal for Columbia.
