Jackson, Tenn. – This morning the 20
th ranked Columbia College women's basketball team was in Jackson, Tennessee, to finish off their weekend at the Jackson Rotary Invitational against 25
th ranked Carroll (Mont.) College. The Cougars were able to finish off the weekend with a perfect 2-0 record after defeating the Saints by a final score of 53-45. With the win, Columbia College improves to 6-1 on the season.
In the first half, the Cougars got off to a quick start knocking down their first shot just 10 seconds into the game when
Morgan Brandt found
Raegan Wieser on the three point line. They were able to take a 17-9 lead into the second quarter but the Saints battled back and brought themselves to within three after hitting a jump shot with 17 seconds remaining in the half. The Cougars struggled offensively in the second as they were held to just eight points.
The third quarter was a defensive battle as both sides had a tough time finding the basket. The Cougars did not get on the board in the second half until three minutes into the quarter when
Ashlee Marlatt was able to knock down a jump shot to put Columbia College back up by three. The teams exchanged points to close out the third but in the final quarter the Cougars were able to go on an 8-2 and never looked back as they held off the Saints to beat their second ranked opponent in two days.
The Cougars were once again led by
Jordan Alford who finished the game with 13 points and seven rebounds. Additionally,
Mai Nienhueser had 12 points and
Ashlee Marlatt added 10 points to round out the top scorers for Columbia College.
The Cougars will take the court again on Tuesday, November 29
th when the take on St. Louis College of Pharmacy in an AMC matchup. The game is set to tip off at 5:30 p.m. in the Southwell Athletic Complex.
