Columbia, Mo. – Tonight the Columbia College men's basketball team was back in action when they took on St. Louis College of Pharmacy in an AMC matchup. The Cougars were able to defeat the Eutectics by a final score of 126-51 and improved to 8-1 on the season and 3-0 in conference play.
The Cougars came out in the first half and absolutely dominated the Eutectics from the opening whistle. They opened up the game on a 19-1 run and never looked back as they played great defense and were knocking down all of their shots. In fact, the Cougars made 17 three pointers in the first half alone which broke the single game record of 16 set by Columbia College on five separate occasions including the most recent occurrence on March 2
nd, 2013, against Williams Baptist (Ark.) College. Columbia College ended the game with 21 three point shots. With the help from the abundance of threes, the Cougars were able to take a 77-26 lead into the halftime break. They were led by
Nic Reynolds who had a team high 17 points in the half.
In the second half, the Eutectics did their best to get back into the game but the Cougars lead was just too large to overcome. However, the story of the second half was the great ball movement Columbia College displayed by finding the open man for the shot all over the floor. The Cougars had 36 assists in tonight's game which is a new record at Columbia College. The previous record of 34 was achieved on March 9
th, 2004, against Harris-Stowe State (Mo.) University.
Columbia College had six players finish in double figures including
Preston Whitfield who had a game high 24 points. Additionally,
Nic Reynolds had 20 points,
Adam Mennemeyer and
Hank Mathews each finished with 18 points,
Jesse Brown dropped in 14 points,
Steven Holloway had 11 points, and
Lucky Ogbomo finished with 10 points to round out the top scorers from Columbia.
The Cougars are back in action on Thursday, December 1
st when they take on Harris-Stowe State (Mo.) University in an AMC matchup. The Hornets come into the game with a 2-4 record on the season and a 0-2 in conference play. The game is set to tip off at 7:30 p.m. at Southwell Complex.
