Columbia, Mo. - Columbia College's eSports squad put on another great show for Saturday's CSL competition. Both teams moved into the rank 1 position of their respective groups. Cougars Blue defeated Baruch College 2-0, and Cougars Silver beat Washington University of St. Louis 2-0.

Columbia College support player Dean Wood, also called "Dean" in game, helped Connor "Artemis" Doyle secure the first kill of the game. The two of them play as a duo in bottom lane for team Blue. Bottom lane is a unique position because it's the only lane on the game map that is shared by multiple players during the lane phase of the game which usually ends around the 10 minute mark. The support's primary role is to bring extra utility and protection to their teammates. It is not the most glorified role on the team because supports don't usually top the damage charts or earn kills, but instead enable their teammates to make plays. One way the support can enable their team is to place down-vision wards on the map. Wards are invisible sentries that reveal a small area of the battlefield for a short duration, making it easier to spot enemies hiding in the fog of war. Dean finished game one with a perfect KDA of 16 (4-0-12) and had 21 wards placed total. Game one ended in just 21:01 with a final score of 36-12. Game two ended in 20:34 with even a larger margin of 29-3.

Team Silver delivered one of the best performances we've seen this season. They shut out Washington University in game one without a single champion dying. Silver had an impressive score of 19-0 in 20:02 of play. In baseball, it would be the equivalent of pitching a "no-hitter." Support player Brandon "Inipro" Hattaway had a KDA of 9 (1-0-8) and placed a total of 16 wards in game one. Mid laner Dylan "Mercy" Guidichessi flexed his muscles Saturday, earning two perfect KDAs, 9 and 18. "Dylan is one of our most consistent players and brings a lot of stability to his team," said Assistant Coach Matt Meininger. In game two Washington University surrendered before losing 6-29 in 20:11 of play.
