Columbia, Mo. – This afternoon the seventh ranked Columbia College men's basketball team was back in action when they hosted Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) University in an AMC contest. The Cougars were able to defeat the Trojans by a final score of 80-59 and improved to 10-1 on the season. The win this afternoon marks the fourth in a row for Columbia College and their fifth straight in AMC play.
The Cougars got off to a quick start in the first half as they started the game on a 13-7 run. They moved the ball well on offense and were able to play lock down defense as they held the Trojans to just 14 points for the first 15 minutes of the game. Columbia College forced Hannibal-LaGrange to turn the ball over 10 times in the first half and were able to turn those turnovers into eight points on the other end.
Travis Vogt and
Nathan Biggs were the leaders in the first half for the Cougars as they both had nine points to help lift Columbia to a 39-18 lead at the halftime break.
Columbia College picked up right where they left off to start the second half and went on a 14-4 run. The Trojans picked up the pace as the half progressed and were able to go on a 15-3 run in the middle of the half to cut the Cougars lead down to 16. However, that was as close as they would get as Columbia was able to convert on their shots down the stretch. The Cougars forced eight more turnovers in the second half as they were able to improve to 5-0 in conference play.
Columbia College had several players finish in double figures including
Jackson Dubinski who finished with a career high 23 points to lead all scorers. In addition to Dubinksi's big game, the Cougars had
Nic Reynolds who finished with 16 points and
Nathan Biggs who added 11 points.
The Cougars are back in action on Thursday, December 15
th when they travel to Belleville, Illinois, to take on Lindenwood University-Belleville (Ill.) in an AMC matchup. The Lynx are currently 8-2 on the season and 3-1 in conference play. The game is set to tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
