Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 St. Louis, Mo. - The Cougar softball team kicked off conference play with a sweep against St. Louis College of Pharmacy on Friday afternoon, defeating the Eutectics 12-0 in five innings before taking game two by a score of 20-0 in five innings. Columbia moves to 10-6 on the season and 2-0 in league play.

The Cougars got the scoring started in the top of the first inning when Rachel Sullivan reached base on a misplayed grounder and scored on a triple to right by Allyson Metz. Molly Carter followed with a single to center, scoring Metz for an early 2-0 lead.

After a scoreless second inning, the Cougars added a third run in the third after Metz hit another triple to lead off and scored on a groundout by Carter. Columbia then erupted for seven runs in the fourth thanks to a wild throw, a fielder's choice and five consecutive walks by the Eutectics.

Columbia tacked on the last two runs in the fifth. Carter reached base on a walk and later scored on another error by the Eutectics. The last run would come as Kaylee Brueggeman singled to center to score Natalie Dummitt who singled earlier in the inning.

Paxton Welch (4-4) earned the win in the circle after giving up just two hits and striking out three in three innings of work. Carter pitched two innings and gave up two hits. Brueggeman led the offense after going 3-for-3 with one run scored and two RBI. Metz and Dummitt chipped in two hits apiece while Spading and Carter had one apiece.

Amber Boehme's (2-1) three-hitter in game two helped the Cougars to victory. The senior fanned four batters and gave up just one walk. Boehme had help from the Cougar offense, posting 23 hits in their 35 at-bats. Columbia scored eight runs in the top of the first, 11 in the third and one in the fourth to run-rule the home team.

Carter led the offensive efforts after going 4-for-4 with three RBI. Sullivan, Metz, and Dummitt posted three hits while Olivia Denslow, Spalding, and Brueggeman had two hits apiece.
