Box Score 2 Babson Park, Fla. – The Columbia College softball team split a doubleheader with Webber International University Thursday afternoon at Nancy Nichols Field. Columbia dropped game one 1-0 before winning the second game 1-0 thanks to a solo home run by
Molly Carter. The split moves the Cougars to 16-16 on the year.
Columbia's starting pitcher
Paxton Welch and the Warriors hurler, Erika Bellinger battled in game one as both pitchers allowed just three hits.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Webber scored the only run they needed on a solo shot over the center field fence by Laura Borders. Columbia's best chance to score would come in the top of the seventh.
Natalie Dummitt led off with a single up the middle and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Julianna Waldner.
Olivia Denslow then reached first on a fielder's choice and stole second, putting runners on second and third with one out. However, two groundouts would allow the Warriors to pull away with the first game win.
Dummitt recorded two of Columbia's three hits while Carter had one.
In game two, Carter ripped her second home run of the year in the top of the first, scoring the lone run of the game.
Cougar pitcher
Lauren McCroskie held the Warriors scoreless throughout the game, picking up her sixth win of the season. The junior pitched all seven innings and allowed just four hits. Columbia tallied five hits in the win led by Sullivan and Carter with two hits apiece.
Columbia will return home and host American Midwest Conference (AMC) foe Harris-Stowe State University on Wednesday, April 6
th. The first pitch is set for 2:00 p.m. at Antimi Softball Complex.
