Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College softball team closed out the regular season this afternoon with two dominating five inning victories over American Midwest Conference (AMC) foe Harris-Stowe State University at Antimi Softball Complex. The Cougars took game one by a score of 28-0 before winning the second game 23-0. With the two victories, Columbia improves to 25-19 on the season and finishes the season with a 15-9 record in conference play.
The Cougars racked up 19 hits in the first game of the day and posted a team batting average of 0.487.
Rachel Sullivan,
Carly Spalding,
Lauren McCroskie, and
Angelica Serles led the offense with three hits apiece while
Julianna Waldner,
Charryl Moody and
Kaylee Brueggeman added two apiece. Moody led the team with six RBI while Sullivan added four RBI and recorded an in-the-park home run. Spalding ripped two triples and had four RBI in the win.
Junior hurler
Paxton Welch posted her second perfect game of the season after keeping the Hornets off of the base paths and retiring six batters in five innings of work.
Columbia continued to rattle their bats in the second game as the squad totaled for 21 hits and had a team batting average of 0.636. Spalding went 4-for-5 with a triple and three RBI to lead the Cougars.
Molly Carter added three hits of her own including her fourth home run of the season while Moody and Brueggeman chipped in three hits apiece.
Dakota Newton went 2-for-2 with four RBI while Sullivan and Serles added two hits apiece.
Amber Boehme earned the win in the circle allowing just one hit and striking out nine in five innings of play.
Postseason play will kick off next week as the AMC Tournament begins next Friday. The Cougars will await the release of the tournament bracket to find out the location and time of the first round game. Check back at
