Columbia, Mo. – Tonight the Columbia College women's soccer team earned their first win of the season as they defeated the #5 ranked University of Mobile (Ala.) 1-0 in overtime. Columbia moves to 1-0-1 on the young season.

The Cougars came out strong in the first half of the game controlling most of the possession throughout. They outshot the Rams 6-2 in the half and had four corner kicks.

The Rams turned it around in the second half creating two scoring chances in the first 10 minutes of play. The first chance came when Cayla Hebert received a ball in the box off of a corner kick and ripped her shot off of the crossbar. Several minutes later, Cheyne Bush received a ball running up the sideline and was able to beat the Columbia keeper. However, Taylor Hagenhoff made the play of the game when she slid across the box knocking the ball off of the goal line.

Laurie Frew had the only goal of the game just three minutes into the overtime frame after the Cougars earned a free kick from around 35-yards away. Frew stepped up and hit a rocket into the lower right hand corner of the net for her second goal of the season.

Flavia Rosado was in goal for the Cougars tonight posting the shutout and getting her first win of 2016.

The Cougars hit the road for the first time this year on Tuesday, September 6^th when they travel to Oskaloosa, Iowa, to take on William Penn University. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
