Columbia, Mo. – This afternoon the Columbia College women's soccer team took on Central Baptist (Ark.) College in their first AMC matchup of the season. The Cougars controlled the entire game defeating the Mustangs by a score of 13-0. Columbia College improves to 4-0-2 and stay undefeated on the season. The Mustangs fall to 0-5-0.
The Cougars were looking to come out and make a statement in their first AMC matchup of the season and they were able to do just that. They outshot the Mustangs 26-0 with 16 shots on target in the first half as they were able to take a 10-0 lead into the halftime break.
Columbia College picked up goals from
Laurie Frew,
Christina Conley,
Katelyn Palmer,
Tiffany Weaver,
Molly Klein,
Lucy Kingsley, and two from
Amy Bolton and
Carlie Howe in the half. They seemed to be in control of the ball for the entire half and did not allow the Mustangs to gain any momentum in the game.
The second half was much like the first with the Cougars controlling most of the play. They picked up their first goal of the second half just seven minutes in when
Molly Klein was able to pick up her second goal of the contest after receiving a ball at the top of the box and ripping her shot just under the crossbar to put the Cougars up 11-0.
Sammie Bauer continued the scoring for the Cougars in the second half as she was able to score her first goal of the season on a cross from
Molly Burke to put Columbia College up 12-0.
Laurie Frew picked up her second goal of the game with 18 minutes left to play for her fourth goal of the season.
Columbia College ended the game with a season high 43 shots including 25 on goal.
Flavia Rosado and
Madison Boyken split time in goal during the shutout for the Cougars as Rosado played the first half and Boyken played in the second half.
The Cougars are back in action on Saturday, September 17
th when they take on William Woods (Mo.) University in the AMC Women's Soccer Game of the Week. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m. on R. Marvin Owens Field in Columbia.
