Columbia, Mo. – Tonight the Columbia College women's soccer team took on William Woods (Mo.) University in the AMC Match of the Week. The Cougars were able to pick up the 4-0 win as they improve to 5-0-2 on the season and 2-0 in conference play. The Owls drop to 1-5-1 overall.
The Cougars picked up their first goal early in the game when they were able to work it down into the Owls half of the field and earned themselves a corner kick just two minutes into the game.
Katelyn Palmer played a great ball into
Kelsey Mirts on the corner who was able to finish off the cross for her third goal of the season. Columbia College picked up their second goal of the first half just seven minutes later when
Katie Cook dribbled the ball into the corner and played a cross into the box that found
Tiffany Weaver for her second goal of the season.
Jordan Poire added a third goal for the Cougars 38 minutes into the first half when she was able to beat several defenders and ripped her shot across the box and into the upper left hand corner of the net for her first goal of the season. Columbia College had 16 shots in the half including eight on goal.
The second half was much of the same for the Cougars as they were able to control the pace of the half from the opening kickoff. Columbia College scored their only goal of the half 15 minutes in after
Laurie Frew was taken down in the box and the Owls keeper was able to make the save on the penalty shot that resulted in a corner for the Cougars.
Katelyn Palmer picked up her second assist of the game when she was able to find Frew off of the corner for her fifth goal of the season. The Cougars outshot the Owls 30-5 in the game.
Flavia Rosado was in goal once again for the Cougars as she picks up her sixth straight shutout on the season recording one save in the match. The senior goalkeeper has not allowed a goal since the first half of the first game of the season,
The Cougars hit the road for their next matchup on Monday, September 19
th when they take on St. Louis College of Pharmacy. Game time is set for 7 p.m. in St. Louis, Missouri.
