Columbia, Mo. – Tonight the Columbia College men's soccer team took on William Woods (Mo.) University in an American Midwest Conference matchup. The Cougars picked up their third win in a row and improve their record to 3-4 on the season and 2-0 in AMC play after defeating the Owls 2-1.
Zachary Felz had the only goal of the first half 40 minutes into the game when the ball bounced to him at the top of the box. Felz took a touch and then ripped a low line driving shot into the lower left hand corner of the net to put the Cougars up 1-0. Columbia College outshot the Owls 4-2 in the first half and had two shots on goal.
Michael Mayberry put the Cougars up 2-0 just 10 minutes into the second half when
Mitchell Conning found Mayberry for his fourth goal of the season.
The Owls cut the lead in half 10 minutes later off of a goal from Rodrigo Alves. William Woods University worked the ball into the Cougars half before eventually earning a corner kick. Brett Hodges played the corner into the Columbia College box eventually finding Alves for his sixth goal of the season. The Owls nearly added a second goal just a few minutes later when William Woods played a ball into the Cougars box finding Alberto Pitarch who bicycle kicked his shot on goal.
Iain McTurk came up with a big save on the shot to keep the Cougars ahead.
Iain McTurk was in goal for the Cougars tonight as he was able to pick up his third win of the season while recording two saves in the match.
The Cougars hit the road for their next matchup on Monday, September 19
th when they take on St. Louis College of Pharmacy. Game time is set for 9 p.m. in St. Louis, Missouri.
