Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College Volleyball team defeated Lindenwood University-Belleville tonight in straight sets by scores of 25-21, 25-22 and 25-13. Tonight's game was the first American Midwest Conference (AMC) game for the Cougars as they move to 6-7 overall. The Lynx fall to 8-7 on the season and 0-1 versus conference foes.
The Cougars and Lynx matched each other in the first set, both logging 12 kills apiece, however Columbia was disciplined at the net, posting just error in their 27 attempts compared to Lindenwood-Belleville's 11 errors in 31 attempts. This week's NAIA National Player of the Week,
Peiyi Liu, led Columbia with five kills in the first set.
The visiting squad continued to hang with the Cougars in the second set before the Cougars took over in set three, holding Lindenwood-Belleville to just seven kills and forcing six errors. Columbia finished the match hitting .321 with a total of eight blocks, doubling the Lynx at the net.
After being named to the All-Tournament Team this past weekend at the Olivet Nazarene University Tournament,
Peiyi Liu and
Sashiko Heredia led the squad with 13 kills and 32 assists on the night, respectively.
The Cougars return to AMC action on Friday, September 23
