Cougars use Heads to Win Fifth Straight

Columbia, Mo. – The 15th ranked Columbia College women's soccer team was back on the field this afternoon in an AMC matchup against Missouri Baptist University. The Cougars picked up their eighth win of the season and their fourth in conference play in the 6-0 win to improve to 8-0-2 and remain undefeated on the season.

The Cougars controlled the tempo of the first half from the opening kickoff creating several scoring opportunities early in the match. They got on the board 13 minutes into the game when Katie Cook played a cross into the middle of the box and found Katelyn Palmer who was able to head the ball off of the bounce just past the Spartans keeper and into the back of the net for her second goal of the season.

Columbia College continued to apply the pressure after the goal and was able to pick up three more goals in the first half to take a 4-0 lead into the halftime break. Christina Conley had two goals within one minute of each other picking up her second and third goals of the season. Conley had her first goal after the Cougars were able to work the ball in the Spartans zone and earned themselves a corner kick. Molly Klein played the corner into the box finding Conley who headed it past the keeper to put Columbia College ahead 2-0. She was back at it again one minute later after Tiffany Weaver made a run down the sideline and swung a line driving cross into the box finding Conley who once again used her head to knock it past the Spartan goalie.
Molly Burke had the final goal of the half for Columbia College after she was also able to get a head on a cross from Kelsey Mirts for her second goal of the season. The Cougars outshot the Spartans 18-2 in the first half and had eight shots on goal.

The second half was much of the same for the Cougars as they created several scoring opportunities early in the period. Columbia College went up 5-0 fifteen minutes into the second half after Molly Klein played a corner kick into the Spartans box that eventually bounced to Molly Burke who beat the Spartans keeper for her second goal of the game. Tiffany Weaver tacked on her fourth goal of the season with 16 minutes remaining in the game when she received a ball at the top of the box from Katie Cook and hit a rocket into the top left corner of the net to put the Cougars ahead 6-0.

Flavia Rosado and Madison Boyken split time in goal for Columbia College recording three saves between the two of them as the Cougars pick up their eighth shutout of the season.
