Columbia, Mo. – Tonight the Columbia College women's volleyball team took on Stephens College in an AMC matchup. The Cougars were able to stay undefeated in the AMC with the three set sweep (25-11, 25-17, 25-13) over the Stars and improve to 8-7 on the season and 3-0 in conference play. The win marks the sixth in a row for the defending National Champions.
Columbia College jumped all over the Stars in the first set as they were able to get out to an early 4-1 lead and never looked back. The Cougars used a 10-1 run in the middle of the set to cruise to a 25-11 victory. Columbia College was led by
Peiyi Liu,
Eirini Chatziefstratiadou, and
Johanna Mueller who each had four kills in the set.
In the second set, the Cougars found themselves down 9-6 as they were unable to get anything going early. With the score tied at 15 midway through the set, Columbia College went on a 7-0 run and took the game 25-17. The third set was much of the same for the Cougars as they jumped out to a 5-1 lead and never let the Stars back in the game. Columbia College took the final set 25-13 to complete the three set sweep over the Stars.
Sashiko Heredia, the AMC Setter of the Week, added to her impressive string of games as she had a match high 36 assists in the contest.
Peiyi Liu also a match high 11 kills and 11 digs for Columbia College.
The Cougars are back in action on Friday, September 30
th when they travel to Missouri Baptist University to take on the 15
th ranked Spartans in the AMC Match of the Week. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m. in St. Louis.
