Parkville, Mo. – Tonight the Columbia College men's soccer team traveled to Parkville, Missouri, to take on their rival Park University in the AMC Game of the Week. The Cougars were able to pick up the 1-0 win and increase their winning streak to six while improving their overall record to 6-4 with the victory.
Columbia College jumped all over the Pirates early in the game when
Mitchell Conning put the Cougars ahead in the fifth minute. Conning received a ball from Dan Rielly off of a long throw in and fired it into the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season. The Cougars continued to apply pressure for the rest of the half but were unable to find the back of the net taking a 1-0 lead into the halftime break. Columbia College had two shots on goal compared to just one from the Pirates in the period.
In the second half, both teams started to go at each other. There were seven cards handed out by the ref in the period including one red card to Ivan Aguero of the Pirates. The Cougars continued to pressure the Pirates looking to add to their one goal lead. They created several scoring opportunities but were unable to capitalize on their chances. Columbia College outshot Park University 5-3 and had one shot on goal in the half.
Iain McTurk was in goal for Columbia College picking up his third shutout of the season. The senior goalkeeper recorded two saves in the match.
The Cougars are back in action on Saturday, October 1
st when they travel to Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, to take on the Williams Baptist College in an AMC matchup. The game is set to start at 1 p.m.
