Pirates and Cougars to Battle in Parkville in AMC Game of the Week

American Midwest Conference Office Story

ST. LOUIS, MO – The American Midwest Conference (AMC) has expanded its Game of the Week Program, and as a result, the AMC is able to feature more games, with more teams as a part of their primary regular season featured broadcast coverage. This week's Game of the Week features the preseason favorites in the AMC in a tough road test in a long-standing rivalry.

Under the lights on Wednesday night, the Columbia College Cougars (5-4, 4-0 AMC) will head west to Parkville, Mo. to battle the Park University Pirates (3-3-2, 2-2 AMC).

WHO

Columbia Cougars: 2016 has been a tale of two seasons so far for the Cougars. Columbia struggled to get their offense going in their first four matches of the season, as they were outscored 10-2 in their first four matches, but things turned around for the Cougars on September 10 in Bourbonnais, Ill. That afternoon, the Cougars took a 4-1 win away from the Olivet Nazarene University Tigers, and since then, Columbia has been on a roll, winning their last five matches by a combined score of 23-3.

Park Pirates: Park has been unable to find consistency in the early going of the 2016 season. The Pirates have gotten some solid performances at times, their two AMC wins so far are by a combined score of 13-2, but at other times, the defense and offense have been sluggish, and opponents have taken advantage of Park. The Pirates need to find some offense to stay in this match – four times this season Park has been shutout, but they are 3-0-1 in matches where they net at least two goals.

WHAT

Since 2009, Columbia has a 6-3-2 advantage in the series, but it has been a rivalry marked by extremely close games. In 10 of those 11 meetings, the match has either resulted in a tie, or the margin of victory was a single goal. In the lone two-goal win in that stretch, Park took a 2-0 win at Columbia on November 10, 2011.

WHERE

Parkville, Mo. (Julian Field)

WHY

Columbia is looking to remain atop the AMC table, as three teams remain unbeaten in AMC play so far this season. Park, meanwhile knows that every point is precious in a race that figures to be pretty tight in the middle of the AMC pack, and they hope to take advantage of their home crowd at Julian Field – a place where the Pirates have amassed a mark of 27-10-6 since 2012.
