Columbia, Mo. – The #7 ranked Columbia College men's soccer team fell to the University of Mobile (Ala.) by a score of 3-0 on Saturday night in a physical matchup. The Cougars fall to 0-2 on the season while the Rams improve to 2-1.
Columbia College controlled the game early creating several scoring opportunities in the first 20 minutes of the game.
Zachary Felz had the best opportunity of the half for the Cougars when he hit a low line driving shot from just outside the box forcing the Ram's keeper to make a big save.
Michael Mayberry had an opportunity at the rebound but the University of Mobile defense was able to clear the ball away. The Cougars had nine shots in the first half including two on goal.
The University of Mobile came out of the halftime break and controlled the possession early. Five minutes into the half, Newton Henry received the ball at the top of the box. Henry beat a defender and ripped his shot off the post and into the back of the net for his second goal of the season.
Just a few moments later, the Rams earned a free kick from 40 yards out and Cameron Cranton was able to put a head on the cross from Casey Culver to put the Rams up 2-0.
The Rams picked up their third goal of the game when George Stannard crossed a ball to Newton Henry who was able to head the ball past the Columbia College keeper for his second goal of the game.
The Cougars had a number of opportunities but just couldn't capitalize as the Rams walked away with the win.
The Cougars are back in action on Tuesday, September 6
th when they travel to Oskaloosa, Iowa, to take on William Penn University. The game is set to start at 5:30 p.m.
