Cougars Beat Baker in Four

Columbia, Mo. – Tonight the Columbia College women's volleyball team picked up their second win of the season as they were able to defeat Baker (Kan.) University in four sets (25-17, 25-17, 23-25, 25-23). The Cougars now improve to 2-6 on the season.

In the first set of the match Baker University jumped out to an early 5-2 lead. However, the Cougars were able to fight their way back into the game, going on an 8-1 run to take the first set 25-17. Peiyi Liu led the way for the Cougars with six kills on 10 attempts.

The Cougars took the lead early in the second set and never looked back. They were able to hold onto the lead throughout the entire set and cruise to a 25-17 victory. Columbia College was once again led by Liu who had five kills in the set.

Columbia College found themselves down early in the third set and were never able to recover. The Wildcats were able to take the set 25-23 led by Gabriella Miller and Jenna Sackman who each had three kills in the set.

The fourth set started off neck-and-neck as both teams exchanged points early. With the game tied at five, the Cougars went on a 7-2 run and held onto the lead. They were able to win the fourth set 25-23 to solidify their victory in the match.

Sashiko Heredia led the way for the Cougars as she was able to record a match high 43 assists. Columbia College also got a match high 20 kills from Peiyi Liu. The Cougars had a 0.272 attacking percentage in the match.

Columbia College hits the road Friday, September 6th to take on Viterbo (Wis.) University and Cardinal Stritch (Wis.) University in the Olivet Nazarene Holiday Inn Express Invite Tournament. Game times are set for 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. in Bourbonnais, Illinois.
