Box Score St. Louis, Mo. – This afternoon the 17th ranked Columbia College men's soccer team was back in action when they traveled to St. Louis, Missouri, to take on Missouri Baptist University in an AMC matchup. The Cougars, who defeated Park (Mo.) University on Saturday by a score of 4-1, were able to improve to 12-2-1 on the season and 8-0-1 in conference play with a 2-1 victory.
The Cougars came out in the first half of the game and set the tone of the match early as they picked up four fouls in the first eight minutes of the game. They created several scoring opportunities in the first 15 minutes but were unable to capitalize until 18 minutes in the game when Cameron Durst was able to head in a cross from Adam Du Toit to put Columbia College up 1-0 midway through the half. The Cougars did their best to add to their lead before halftime but were unable to find the back of the net as the game remained 1-0 at the break.
It did not take long for Columbia College to increase their lead in the second half as Matheus Lima was able to knock in his third goal of the season five minutes into the half to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead. Missouri Baptist battled back and were able to cut Columbia's lead to 2-1 with 12 minutes remaining in the game on an own goal from the Cougars but that was as close as they would get as Columbia was able to hold them off down the stretch to solidify their 12th win of the season.
Nicolau Neto was in goal for the Cougars as the senior made four saves in the contest.
The Cougars are back in action on Thursday, October 19th when they travel to Forest City, Iowa, to take on Waldorf (Iowa) College in a non-conference matchup. The game is set to start at 12:00 p.m.
