Columbia, Mo. – This afternoon the NAIA national office announced the seventh NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll for the 2017 season. The Cougars, who ranked 17th in the last poll, remained 17th after going 2-0-1 in three games since the last poll was released on October 10th.
Despite getting off to slow start to the season dropping two of their first three games, Columbia College has picked it up and is unbeaten in their last 12 games as they currently sit at 12-2-1 on the year and 8-0-1 in conference play. As a team, they currently rank 17th in the NAIA in total shutouts (6), 45th in total goals (36), and 49th in shots per game (16.530) while holding a one game lead over William Woods in the conference standings.
The team has been led by senior goalkeeper Nicolau Neto who currently ranks first in the NAIA in goals against per game (0.450). Offensively the Cougars are led by Michael Mayberry who leads the team with six goals and four assists for 16 total points. In addition, Joey Koetting has made a big contribution this season as the junior forward ranks 28th in the NAIA in total game winning goals with three on the season.
The Cougars are back in action on Thursday, October 19th when they travel to Forest City, Iowa, to take on Waldorf (Iowa) University in a non-conference matchup. The game is set to start at noon.
