Hannibal, Mo. – The Columbia College volleyball team was back in action tonight as they traveled to Hannibal, Missouri to face Hannibal-LaGrange University in an AMC matchup. Columbia was able to defeat the Trojans in a 3-0 set (25-14, 25-18, 25-15) to improve to 26-4 on the season and 9-1 in conference play.
Each team came out and exchanged points to start the first set. They were tied at 5 early in the match. Columbia found their groove and used a 20-9 run to quickly go up 1-0 in the match with a 25-14 victory in set one.
To start the second set the Cougars jumped to a 6-2 lead, but the Trojans would battle back and tie it 9-9. The set would remain close as Columbia led 17-16 late in the game. The Cougars went on a late 8-2 run to win set two 25-18.
Columbia once again took an early lead 8-3 to start the third set. The Trojans tried their best to find their way back into the game, but Columbia would be too much to handle as they cruised to a 25-15 victory to win the match in three sets.
Columbia was led by Caroline Clifford who recorded 11 kills. Gabriela Walton tallied 15 digs, while Yamilet Velazquez had 29 assists in the match.
The Cougars are back in action on Friday, October 27th when they travel to Georgetown, Kentucky to compete in the 2017 Boneyard Brawl. Columbia is set to play Union (Ky.) College at 2:00 p.m. and again at 4:30 p.m. vs Campbellsville (Ky.) University.
