Columbia, Mo. – This afternoon the NAIA national office announced the ninth NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll for the 2017 season. The Cougars, who ranked 18th in the last poll, were able to move up one spot to 17th after going 2-0 since the last poll was released last Tuesday.
The Cougars currently sit at 14-2-2 on the season and 10-0-1 in conference play which earned them a share of the AMC regular season title and the second overall seed in the AMC Championships. As a team, they currently rank 12th in the NAIA in total shutouts (8) and 24th in shutouts per game. They have outscored their opponent 39-11 on the season and have not lost a match since a 1-0 double overtime loss to Missouri Valley College on September 2nd.
Columbia College has been led by Nicolau Neto who has been solid between the pipes for the Cougars all season long. The senior currently holds the best goals against per game average in the NAIA letting in 0.420 goals per game. Offensively, Columbia College has been led by Michael Mayberry and Adam Du Toit. Mayberry, a senior forward out of Ames, Iowa, leads the team with six goals on the season and currently sits tied for 10th in the conference. Du Toit, a junior forward out of Farmborough, England, is tied for second on the team with five goals on the season and leads the Cougars with six assists.
The Cougars are back in action on Saturday, November 4th when they play host to the Williams Baptist (Ark.) College Eagles in the quarterfinals of the AMC Championships. The Eagles come into this game with a 7-10-1 record on the year and were defeated by Columbia College earlier in the season by a final score of 3-1. The game is set to start at 3 p.m. on R. Marvin Owen's Field.
