Columbia, Mo. – Tonight the fifth ranked Columbia College women's soccer team was back in action when they played host to the Stephens (Mo.) College Stars in an AMC matchup. The Cougars were able to defeat the Stars by a final score of 11-0 and improved to 12-0 on the season and 7-0 in conference play.
Columbia College came out in the first half and controlled the possession from the start. They were able to score their first goal 17 minutes into the game when Emma Laney found Kelsey Mirts who finished off her 14th goal of the season to give the Cougars an early 1-0 lead. The continued to play well as the half progressed and added five more goals in the period including tallies from Mirts, Lucy Kingsley, Tiffany Weaver, Molly Klein, and Laurie Frew to give Columbia a 6-0 lead at the halftime break.
The second half was similar to the first as the Cougars were able to control the tempo of the match. Kelsey Mirts got the scoring going for Columbia in the half as she finished off her third of the game 11 minutes into the period. Following the third goal from Mirts, Jordan Poire was able to extend the Cougars lead to 8-0 just a minute later. Columbia College added tallies from Lucy Kingsley, Samantha Bassler, and Tiffany Weaver before the end of the game and remained undefeated on the season
Erin Jones was in goal for the Cougars tonight as the sophomore recorded her second solo shutout of the season.
The Cougars are back in action on Saturday, October 7th when they play host to the University of Jamestown (N.D.) in a non-conference matchup. The game is set to start at 1:30 p.m.
