Fulton, Mo. – This afternoon the seventh ranked Columbia College men's basketball team was back in action when they traveled to Fulton, Missouri, to take on William Woods (Mo.) University in an AMC matchup. The Cougars were defeated by the Owls by a final score of 84-69 and fell to 9-1 on the season and 2-1 in the AMC.
The Cougars came out in the first half of the game and quickly took an 11-6 lead over the Owls. William Woods responded with a 5-0 run of their own to tie the score at 11 but a three point shot from Nathan Biggs gave Columbia a 14-11 lead six minutes into the game. The score remained close for the next few minutes but the Cougars were able to use a 10-0 run midway through the half to take a 31-21 lead with just under seven minutes to play in the period. Columbia College continued to play well down the final stretch of the half and took a 41-33 lead into the locker room. Nathan Biggs led all scorers with 12 points in the half.
William Woods came out in the second half and were able to go on a 17-8 run to start the period and take a 50-49 lead in the game. They forced the Cougars to take tough shots on the offensive end and pushed their lead to 10 with just under six minutes remaining. Columbia College continued to struggle as the half progressed and found themselves trailing by 15 late in the contest. They did their best to cut into the deficit in the closing minutes of the game but the Owls were able to hit their free throws down the stretch to hand the Cougars their first loss of the season.
Adam Mennemeyer led the way for Columbia as he finished with a career and game high 22 points in the contest. In addition, Nathan Biggs finished with 17 points and team high six rebounds while Nic Reynolds added 10 points to round out the top performers for the Cougars.
Columbia College is back in action on Thursday, December 7th when they play host to the Avila (Mo.) University Eagles in a nonconference matchup. The game is set to start at 7:30 p.m.
