Cougars Sweep Double Header

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Fort Worth, Texas – The Columbia College softball team was back in action today for a double header on the second day of the 2017 Cowtown Classic in Fort Worth, Texas. The Cougars played great in both games and were able to defeat Sterling (Kan.) College by a final score of 9-1 and then followed that up with an 8-0 win against Tabor (Kan.) College to improve to 4-1 on the season.

In the first game against Sterling, the Cougars got off to a slow start and found themselves trailing 1-0 midway through the third inning. However, their bats came alive in the bottom of the third and
Columbia rattled off nine runs over the next three frames to defeat the Warriors in five innings. Paxton Welch was the starting pitcher for the Cougars and picked up her first win of the season after going five innings allowing just five hits and one earned run in the contest. Offensively, Columbia College was led by Carly Spalding who went 4-4 with three RBI's and two runs scored including a homerun in the third inning to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead.

Columbia's offense continued to roll in the second game against Tabor as they scored three runs in the first innings and added another run in the second inning to take a 4-1 lead in the game. Tabor had trouble getting anything going offensively against Lauren McCroskie and were limited to just five hits in the contest. Columbia was able to score four more runs in the last three innings of the game and cruised to an 8-0 victory. McCroskie was the winning pitcher for the Cougars going six innings and striking out five batters. In addition to McCroskie, Carly Spalding went 2-3 with two RBI's and Allyson Metz went 2-2 with two RBI's to round out the top performers for the Cougars.
