Box Score Memphis, Tenn. – This afternoon the Columbia College baseball team was back in action for the third game of a three game series against Christian Brothers (Tenn.) University in Memphis, Tennessee. The Cougars were defeated by the Buccaneers by a final score of 7-6 in a game that last 12 innings. With the loss, Columbia College drops to 3-4 on the season.
The Cougars got off to a quick start in the contest as they scored in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead in the game. However, their lead did not las long as the Buccaneers were able to score in each of the next two innings to jump out to a 2-1 lead. Columbia struggled to get anything going over the next few innings but rallied for four runs in the sixth and seventh frames to take a 5-2 lead in the game.
Columbia College looked as if they were going to close out Christian Brothers University down the stretch but a three run eighth inning from the Buccaneers tied the score at five and sent the game into extra innings. Each side exchanged runs in the 10
th inning, but ultimately the Buccaneers would rally in the bottom of the 12
th and score the game winning run to take the weekend series two games to one.
Jeremy Rettig got the start for Columbia this afternoon allowing just three hits and two earned runs in 6.1 innings of work. In addition to Rettig,
Hunter Trowbridge went 2-6 with two RBI's and
Kenny Piper went 2-6 with two runs scored to round out the top performers for the Cougars.
Columbia College is back in action on Friday, February 17
th when they travel to Joplin, Missouri, to compete in the Joplin Tourney against Grand View (Iowa) University. The game is set to start at 2:30 p.m.
