Columbia, Mo. – This afternoon the 12
th ranked Columbia College women's basketball team was back in action when they took on Williams Baptist (Ark.) College in an AMC matchup. The Cougars were able to defeat the Eagles by a final score of 107-55 and improved to 23-5 on the season and 17-5 in conference play. With the loss, Williams Baptist drops to 10-18 on the season and 7-15 in conference play.
Columbia College came out firing after their loss on Thursday night to the top ranked Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University Lions and jumped out to an early 14-0 lead in the game. They were able to lock down the Eagles on the defensive end of the floor and held them to just six points in the first quarter. Williams Baptist was finally able to settle into their offense in the second quarter but the Cougars were just too much for them to handle down the final stretch of the half and Columbia took a 43-20 lead into the halftime break.
Columbia College picked up right where they left off in the first half of the game and continued to play well offensively in the third quarter. They opened the period on a 14-4 run and were able to extend their lead to 33 midway through the quarter. However, the Eagles responded to the run with a 12-9 run of their own heading into the final period. Despite giving up the run, Columbia College's offense showed no signs of slowing down in the fourth as they outscored the Eagles 38-14 in the final 10 minutes to cruise to their 23
rd win of the season.
The Cougars were led by
Morgan Brandt who finished with a career high 23 points and 10 rebounds for her team leading seventh double-double of the season. In addition to Brandt,
Ashlee Marlatt also set a career high with 23 points,
Raegan Wieser finished with 12 points and
Mai Nienhueser ended with 11 points to round out the top performers for Columbia.
The Cougars are back in action on Thursday, February 23
rd when they travel to Parkville, Missouri, to take on Park (Mo.) University in an AMC matchup. Columbia College defeated the Pirates earlier this season by a final score of 92-75 in a game that
