Box Score McKenzie, Tenn. – This afternoon the Columbia College baseball team was back in action in Mckenzie, Tennessee, when they took on Bethel (Tenn.) University in the second game of a four game series. The Cougars were able to carry over their momentum from yesterday's win into today's game as they defeated the Wildcats by a final score of 10-4 to improve to 2-0 on the season.
The Cougars came out in the first inning and were very aggressive on the base paths. They were able to take advantage of the Wildcats mistakes and took an early 1-0 lead in the game after
Ethan Howser scored on a wild pitch. However, Bethel responded quickly to the run from Columbia and scored a run of their own in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at one. The Wildcats picked up one more run in the bottom of the fourth after Adkinson Kendall hit a one run homer to right field to take a 2-1 lead in the game.
Columbia College had a tough time putting the ball in play through the first five innings as the Wildcats starting pitcher racked up 10 strikeouts during that period. However, their bats came alive in the sixth inning and the Cougars were able to score eight runs in the inning to take a 9-2 lead in the game. Bethel responded to the Cougars big inning by picking up two runs in the bottom half of the frame but that was as close as they would get as Columbia picked up one more run in the top of the ninth and cruised to their second straight win.
Cody Ebert picked up the win for the Cougars this afternoon as the starting pitcher went five innings allowing just two hits and one earned run on the mound. In addition to Ebert,
Ethan Howser went 2-4 with two RBI's and
Kenny Piper scored a run and had two RBI's to round out the top performers for Columbia.
The Cougars are back in action tomorrow afternoon for a double header against Bethel. The first game will start at 12 p.m. with the second game to follow.
