Box Score 2 St. Louis, Mo. – This afternoon the Columbia College softball team was back in action when they traveled to St. Louis, Missouri, to take on Harris-Stowe State (Mo.) University in an AMC doubleheader. The Cougars, who came into this game on a nine game winning streak, were able to extend their streak to 11 straight games after defeating the Hornets by a final score of 21-4 in the first game and 22-0 in the second game. With the sweep, Columbia College improves to 15-2 on the season and 4-0 in conference play.
The Cougars offense was rolling in the first game of the day as they were able to put together a 27 hit outing to cruise past the Hornets. Columbia started the game by going off for 10 runs in the top of the first inning and added five runs in the third, two runs in the fourth, and four runs in the fifth to solidify their 14
th win of the season.
Paxton Welch was the winning pitcher in this one for the Cougars allowing just one hit and no earned runs in 3.1 innings of work. Offensively, Columbia College was led by
Allyson Metz who went 5-5 with seven RBI's and
Theresa DeCosty who went 3-4 with three runs scored.
The Cougars were able to carry over their momentum from the first game into the second game and added another 22 hits to their impressive tally on the day. Columbia's offense scored three runs in the first, five runs in the second, seven runs in the third, two runs in the fourth and five runs in the fifth propelling them to their fourth conference win in as many games.
Lauren McCroskie was the starting pitcher for the Cougars going all five innings and allowing zero hits in the complete game no-hitter. In addition to McCroskie,
Molly Carter went 2-3 with six RBI's and
Karli Leeper went 3-4 with three RBI's to round out the top performers for Columbia.
The Cougars are back in action tomorrow, March 18
th when they take on Missouri Baptist University in their second AMC doubleheader of the weekend. The games are set to take place in St. Louis, Missouri, with their first contest slated for 1 p.m.
