Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Lake Wales, Fla. – This afternoon the third ranked Columbia College softball team traveled to Lake Wales, Florida, to take on Warner (Fla.) University in an a nonconference doubleheader. The Cougars were able to sweep the Royals in the doubleheader taking the first game by a final score of 4-0 and the second game by a final score of 9-4. With the sweep, Columbia improves to 25-4 on the season.

In their first game against the Royals, the Cougars got off to a quick start in the first inning as Carly Spalding was able to get on base to lead off the game and then later came around and scored on a sacrifice fly from Allyson Metz to give Columbia an early 1-0 lead. They were able to add two more runs in the top of the third inning when Molly Carter and Allyson Metz hit back-to-back doubles, and then added one more run in the top of the sixth to solidify their 24th win of the season. Kaitlyn Nottleman was the starting pitcher for the Cougars picking up her second win of the season in the three hit complete game shutout. Offensively, Columbia College was led by Theresa DeCosty who went 3-4 with an RBI and Carly Spalding who went 2-3 with three runs scored.

The Cougars were able to carry over their momentum from the first game and jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning of the second game. However, the Royals responded quickly and rallied for three runs of their own in the bottom half of the frame to cut Columbia's lead to one heading into the second. Both sides exchanged runs in the second inning but ultimately a two run fifth and a two run seventh proved to be the difference in the game as Columbia held off the Royals to complete the two game sweep. Molly Carter was the starting pitcher in this one for the Cougars picking up her first win of the season after allowing just six hits and four earned runs in seven innings of work. In addition, Carter, the reigning AMC Player of the Week, also led Columbia at the plate as she went 4-5 with two RBI's.

The Cougars are back in action on Friday, March 31st when they host Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University in an AMC doubleheader. The first game against the Lions is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start with the second game to follow at the Antimi Softball Complex.
