Cougars Win Fourth Straight

Columbia, Mo. – This afternoon the Columbia College baseball team was back in action when they played host to the University of Saint Mary Spires in a nonconference matchup. The Cougars defeated the Spires by a final score of 10-0 in seven innings as they were able to push their winning streak to four straight games. With the win, Columbia improves to 12-7 on the season.

The Cougars came out in the first inning and dominated from the start. J.W. McGraw was on the mound for Columbia and started the game striking out the side in the top of the first before the offense went off for three runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 3-0 lead into the second. Columbia added three more runs in the bottom of the second inning and held a 6-0 lead through two inning of play. The Spires did all they could to get back into the game but three runs in the sixth innings and a run in the bottom of the seventh lifted the Cougars to their ninth win in their last 10 games.

J.W. McGraw was the starting pitcher for Columbia allowing just five hits and no earned runs while striking out six in the complete game shutout. Offensively, the Cougars were once again led by the reigning AMC Player of the Week, Andrew Warner, who went 3-3 with three RBI's and a run scored. In addition to Warner, Ethan Howser went 3-4 with three runs scored and Tanner Allen went 3-4 with three RBI's to round out the top performers for Columbia.
