Cougars Fall To CMU

Columbia, Mo. – Tonight the Columbia College baseball team was back in action when they played host to the tenth ranked Central Methodist (Mo.) University Eagles in a nonconference matchup. The Cougars were defeated by the Eagles by a final score of 12-5 and fell to 26-13 on the season. With the win, Central Methodist improves to 28-8 on the season.

The Cougars came out and had a tough time at the plate through the first six innings. The Eagles were able to take advantage of Columbia's struggles with the bat and put together a six run third inning to take a 6-0 lead in the ballgame. The Cougars were finally able to pick up their first hit in the bottom of the sixth inning and were able to score one run in the seventh and one run in the 8th to cut the Eagles lead to 6-2. However, Central Methodist responded quickly to Columbia's runs and put together another six run inning in the top of the ninth to take a 12-2 lead into the final half inning. The Cougars did their best to get back into the game and were able to cut the Eagles lead to 12-5 in the bottom of the ninth but that was as close as they would get as Central Methodist closed them out down the stretch and solidified the win.

J.W. McGraw was the starting pitcher for the Cougars in this game allowing just three hits and two earned runs in 2.0 innings of work. Offensively, Columbia College was led by Ethan Howser who went 1-4, including a two run homerun, and Jordan Wright who went 1-4 with an RBI.

The Cougars are back in action on Friday, April 14th when they travel to Fulton, Missouri, to take on William Woods (Mo.) University in an AMC matchup. The game is set to start at 6 p.m.
