Cougars Fall to 12th Ranked Bluejays

Columbia, Mo. – This afternoon the Columbia College baseball team took on the 12th ranked Tabor (Kan.) College Bluejays (33-11) in a nonconference matchup. The Cougars, who are receiving votes in the latest NAIA Baseball Coaches' Top 25 Poll, were defeated by the Bluejays by a final score of 13-6. With the Loss, Columbia College drops to 28-15 on the season.

The Cougars came out in the first inning and took it to the Bluejays early. They were able to rally for three runs in the bottom half of the frame and took a 3-0 lead into the second. However, Tabor did not let Columbia's lead last long as they scored two runs in the top of the second and then rallied for eight runs in the top of the third to take a 10-3 lead in the ballgame. The Cougars were able to answer back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the third but Tabor was hitting the ball well all game and scored two more runs in the top of the fourth to take a 12-3 lead. Columbia added one more run in the bottom of the fourth inning but the Bluejays shut the Cougars down for the rest of the game and scored one final run in the top of the sixth to solidify the victory.

J.W. McGraw (3-2) was the starting pitcher in this game as he allowed five hits and three earned runs in two innings of work. Jacob Ford (1-0), Jacob Venneman (1-0), Collin Bernskoetter (1-0), and Craig Smith (2-3) were all in relief for McGraw as the four pitchers combined for three strikeouts while allowing seven runs. Offensively, Columbia College was led by Andrew Warner who went 2-3 with a solo homerun (15) and Bradley Prebay who went 1-4 with two RBI's.

The Cougars are back in action on Saturday, April 22nd when they travel to Batesville, Arkansas, to take on Lyon (Ark.) College (28-17) in AMC doubleheader. The first game of the doubleheader is set to start at 12 p.m. with the second game to follow.
